A new group has just been created on LinkedIn® professional networking services. This brand new group is dedicated to a specific field of nanomedicine. The Group name is "Nanotechnology in Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine" (abbreviation: Nano-TERM).
LinkedIn® professional networking services is recognized worldwide as the largest social network dedicated solely to matters of professional nature. This worldwide recognition is based on numerous specialized studies.
Nanotechnology has a huge impact in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine and offers a promissory potential for its future development.
Indeed, the ability to manipulate matter at the nanometre scale is profoundly changing the rules of the game. Therefore, this field of nanomedicine allows a new and disruptive approach to tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The aim of nanotechnology in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine is to develop systems that act properly as functional replacements for damaged tissues and organs (partially or totally), using the scientific and technological knowledge offered by nanotechnology.
This field nanomedicine offers improvements in the ability to provide a biomimetic nanoenvironment to cells and tissue under development.
In the period preceding the transplantation or implantation, cells are usually seeded in a nanofabricated 3-D porous matrix. This nanofabricated 3-D porous matrix is made of nanobiomaterial / bionanomaterial (scaffold) that mimics the extracellular matrix (ECM) and is biocompatible and biodegradable. These nanotechnology-enabled scaffolds provide:
- Important (or even crucial) information to cells for the successful development of tissue;
- A proper environment for in vitro 3-D cell and tissue growth, promoting vascularisation for further implant / transplant in vivo.
- Academia;
- Industry.
- Regeneration / repair of tissues through the use of stem cell technology, combined with nanotechnology;
- Nanotopography techniques employed in the surface of the ECM and in the design and construction of nanotechnology-enabled porous scaffolds;
- Nanodevices employed in order to trigger specific processes which facilitate the development appropriately of tissues;
- Use of engineered nanobiomaterials / bionanomaterials (such as carbon nanotubes, nanowires and other inorganic materials) in tissue engineering;
- Incorporation of nanobiomaterials / bionanomaterials (such as nanotubes or nanowires) on the external surface of nanoporous scaffolds as a mechanism to mitigate the inflammatory response directed to the transplanted engineered tissues, through the modulation of macrophage adhesion and viability;
- Mechanisms by which cells of developing tissues sense the nanostructures at the molecular level, contributing this way to develop novel nanobiomaterials / bionanomaterials;
- Use of electrospinning processing techniques for producing synthetic polymeric ultrafine nanofibres, with applications in porous scaffolds and wound dressings;
- Nanotechnological approaches and strategies to the treatment of injuries.
- Scientists (academia, industry);
- Physicians;
- Engineers;
- Executives;
- Investors;
- Recruiters;
- Patent attorneys;
- And a whole vast and diverse range of professional actors connected to the field of nanotechnology in biomedical diagnosis.
Therefore, the requirements for the Nano-TERM to become a discussion group highly specialized and highly professional, at international level are met.
It is important to take into account that the Nano-TERM is in LinkedIn® professional networking services - the largest social network dedicated strictly to professional affairs, worldwide.
Owner of the Nano-TERM Group: Luis Bastos.
